Darem Reymi was a Khionian. He was the first of his species to join Starfleet Academy, with aspirations to become a captain. (SA: "Kids These Days")
Biography
Childhood
Reymi was born on stardate 851095.82 on Khionia. He attended Khionian Royal High and graduated on stardate 868490.0. (SA: "Series Acclimation Mil")
During his youth, he was Captain of the Khionian All-Planet Under-18 Calica Team, and also used to play the Belaklavion. During one recital, his parents left during his performance because he missed a note. He had an appendectomy when he was six years old, resulting in a scar between his left ribs. (SA: "Vitus Reflux")
Darem was promised to Kaira, his best friend and heiress to the throne of the Khionian Realm, when they were both children. It was agreed that the two would be sealed after Reymi graduated from the Academy and that he would be allowed to spend a few years in Starfleet before assuming his duties as King consort. (SA: "Ko'Zeine")
Starfleet Academy
Reymi's personnel file
On his way to Earth, Darem played a pivotal role in saving the USS Athena from Nus Braka and the Venari Ral. Due to his Khionian physiology, Darem was able to go onto the outside of the ship without protection to acquire vital data for Caleb Mir. Darem nearly froze to death, but he was saved by Genesis Lythe using the ship's tractor beam. (SA: "Kids These Days")
He ended up sharing a room with Caleb and Ocam Sadal. He was initially selected as the Captain of the Academy's Calica team, the Laplings, but chose to relinquish the post to Genesis, who had proven to be a better leader, after being gently admonished by Commander Jett Reno for his selfish behavior. Darem participated in the pranking of the War College with vitus reflux and rescued Caleb from being captured by security using the War College cadets' own transporter module which Darem had found while on lavatory cleaning duty. (SA: "Beta Test", "Vitus Reflux")
Darem showed a great deal of compassion towards Jay-Den Kraag ahead of the Aaron Satie Debate Competition following the potential loss of Jay-Den's family, teaching him Lhyene to help Jay-Den cope with his fear of public speaking. When Caleb repaired a transmitter that Jay-Den owned, Caleb explained that he knew about it because he "had some help from a Khionian who stopped being a dick for a day." (SA: "Vox In Excelso")
Darem later decided that the Academy cadets and War College cadets could not share the Academy's atrium because of their turf war, only to become frustrated by the friendly interactions between Jay-Den and Kyle Jokovich. (SA: "Series Acclimation Mil")
Near the end of his first semester, Darem took part in a field exercise on the abandonned USS Miyazaki. He was on the bridge of the Athena when his fellow cadets were taken hostages by Furies and alongside Genesis, did his part in rescuing the survivors of the attack. (SA: "Come, Let's Away")
As Darem was about to leave the Academy for the All-Worlds Day break, he was abducted by Khionian royal guards and brought back to Sunset Moon. On Khionia's Matrimonial moon, he was then told that his sealing date to Kaira was moved up by several years when his betrothed's parents decided to abdicate their positions after the Queen had a health scare, requiring Darem to leave Starfleet early, to rule Khionia with his spouse.
After hearing Jay-Den, who witnessed Darem's "kidnapping" and ended up as his Ko'Zeine while trying to rescue his classmate, describe Darem's activities at Starfleet Academy in his best man's toast, Kaira realized that Darem had only agreed to marry her out of a sense of duty. As soon as the ceremony was over, the new Queen convinced Darem to abdicate, and with the resulting annulment of their marriage he was freed to return to Starfleet Academy. (SA: "Ko'Zeine")
At the end of the academic year, Darem took part in the R'uustai Klingon bonding ritual with his friends to become a chosen family as a part of the House of Kraag. A drunken Darem later accompanied SAM, Genesis and Caleb on an unauthorized mission to find Caleb's mother, Anisha Mir. The cadets were rescued from the Venari Ral by Captain Nahla Ake, Reno and the Doctor who had taken the Athena after them. (SA: "300th Night")
When Nus Braka's forces disabled the Athena's saucer section and took Ake and Anisha, Darem took the ship's helm. Darem protested using only 1/8 impulse power and got the ship stuck in a gravitational eddy when he tried to go too fast, requiring Reno to fix his mistake, although Reno reassured Darem that he would learn from his mistakes as she had done when Reno wrecked three shuttles. Reno privately told Caleb while they were fixing the warp core that Darem would make a good pilot one day. Darem came up with the strategy of hiding in the gas clouds of Beithir V so that the Venari Ral wouldn't detect the ship while they shut down the Omega-47 mines. After the Venari Ral were defeated, Darem stood with his friends and watched as the Athena approached Betazed. (SA: "Rubincon")
Personality
On Khionia, Darem was known as an appeaser, always quiet and one step behind Kaira, duty-bound to his family and people. The most excited Kaira ever saw Darem was when he left for Starfleet Academy where Darem would finally have a chance to be himself. (SA: "Ko'Zeine")
Darem was extremely brave, risking his life to save the USS Athena from the Venari Ral. Darem later stood up to the Venari Ral soldiers who took him and his friends' hostage, resulting in Darem getting beaten up. (SA: "Kids These Days", "300th Night")
While in the Academy, Darem showed another side of his personality, as a jock surrounded by posses and boasting about his numerous accomplishments, real or not. Like when he told his fellow cadets that his appendectomy scar was from a knife wound received from another young man he was dating, much to his parents' disapproval. He added that the relationship ended after Darem slept with the man's sisters and cousin; which led to the knife fight. Darem explained that because of his difficult relationship with his family, Darem had come to believe at a young age that you have to be the center of the universe, or you were nothing. Darem later told Jay-Den Kraag that when he first arrived, Darem thought the Academy was there to serve him. (SA: "Vitus Reflux", "Ko'Zeine")
After being gently scolded by Commander Jett Reno for his behavior, Darem showed a humbler side of himself, apologizing to Genesis for his behavior and following her lead in pranking the War College. (SA: "Vitus Reflux")
Darem displayed a great deal of caring for his friends, teaching Jay-Den Kraag Lhyene to help with his fear of public speaking and telling Caleb about Jay-Den's busted transmitter so that Caleb would fix it. As a part of his Ko'Zeine toast, Jay-Den noted that while Darem's counsel was harsh at times, it showed him that Darem that was someone who cared. (SA: "Vox In Excelso", "Ko'Zeine")
While insulting Darem, Caleb called him a clown prince and a reflection who was looking for himself in the faces of his parents and everyone else he screwed over since arriving at Starfleet Academy. (SA: "300th Night")
Personal relationships
Family
Darem had a cold and distant relationship with his parents, telling Genesis Lythe that in his family "you're either the center of the universe or you're nothing." Darem's parents went so far as to leave a performance he was putting on when Darem made a single mistake and didn't respond to his messages after he started Starfleet Academy. (SA: "Vitus Reflux")
While Darem's parents attended his wedding, they never once spoke to their son. (SA: "Ko'Zeine")
Friendships
Genesis Lythe
Darem quickly became friends with Genesis on the trip to Earth and Genesis saved his life during the Venari Ral attack. (SA: "Kids These Days")
However, this friendship soured when they were competing for captain of the Academy's Calica team with Darem taking things too far. After Commander Jett Reno gently rebuked Darem for his behavior, pointing out that Genesis had always been there for him, Darem reconciled with her and gave Genesis the captaincy of the team. (SA: "Vitus Reflux")
Darem later became a part of the House of Kraag alongside his friends, declaring themselves a chosen family and, by Klingon tradition, adoptive siblings. (SA: "300th Night")
Jay-Den Kraag
Darem developed a close friendship with Jay-Den Kraag, teaching him Lhyene to help Jay-Den with his fear of public speaking and telling Caleb Mir about Jay-Den's broken transmitter. (SA: "Vox In Excelso")
Darem later became frustrated with his friend's growing romantic relationship with War College cadet Kyle Jokovich. (SA: "Series Acclimation Mil")
When Darem was "abducted" for his wedding on the Sunset Moon, Jay-Den followed his friend out of concern. Jay-Den recognized that Darem was only marrying Kaira out of a sense of duty and Darem opened up to him about how he didn't want to leave the future Darem saw for himself at Starfleet Academy. This led to an argument between them and Darem insulting Jay-Den's choices, causing him to storm off. However, despite his reservations, Jay-Den returned and gave the Ko'Zeine toast for Darem, expressing his admiration for Darem and telling the gathered guests about the Darem that he knew. However, it resulted in Kaira realizing that Darem was only marrying her out of obligation and ending their relationship. Despite how things turned out, Darem thanked Jay-Den for being there for him. (SA: "Ko'Zeine")
Darem later became a part of the House of Kraag alongside his friends, declaring themselves a chosen family and, by Klingon tradition, adoptive siblings. (SA: "300th Night")
Caleb Mir
When Darem and Caleb met, they initially didn't get along at all due to their clashing personalities. This was only worsened when Darem and Caleb were assigned to be roommates, later joined by Ocam Sadal. (SA: "Kids These Days", "Beta Test")
Their relationship later improved during the prank war with the War College with Darem coming to Caleb's rescue rather than leaving him to be caught by security. This proved to be the beginning of a friendship between the two with Darem telling Caleb about Jay-Den's broken transmitter. (SA: "Vitus Reflux", "Vox In Excelso")
Darem later became a part of the House of Kraag alongside his friends, declaring themselves a chosen family and, by Klingon tradition, adoptive siblings. Darem encouraged Caleb to drink and join the family and to appreciate how hard it was for Darem to tell him that.
When Caleb's friends ended up accompanying him to Ukeck to find his mother, Darem was more or less inadvertently dragged along rather than being a willing or unwilling participant like SAM and Genesis because Darem had stumbled into the shuttle drunk. Caleb later lashed out at Darem when he was preparing to leave with his mother, visibly hurting his friend who said nothing to Caleb as he left. However, when Darem and the others were in danger of being executed by the Venari Ral, Caleb came back to save them. (SA: "300th Night")
When Commander Jett Reno told Caleb that he didn't need his friends being held at gunpoint to do the right thing, Caleb joked "well, maybe Darem." Caleb later told his mother that he was a coward who said horrible things to his friends who deserved better, but wouldn't let him push them away. Upon hearing Caleb's confession and apology, Darem smiled. (SA: "Rubincon")
Romance
Kaira
As a child, Darem was promised to his best friend Kaira and the two were to be sealed after Darem's graduation from Starfleet Academy and a few years in Starfleet. However, their sealing was moved up when Kaira's mother experienced a health scare. After hearing about Darem's activities at Starfleet Academy from Jay-Den Kraag's toast, Kaira realized that he was only marrying her out of obligation and ended their relationship, getting an annulment with Darem who abdicated his role as her consort.
