The Omega-47 mine, or Omega mine, was a type of space mine developed by Nus Braka of the Venari Ral in 3196. The mine consisted of a time-delayed containment device that held a single particle of Omega-47, a synthetic variant of the Omega molecule; both were stolen by Braka from Starbase J19-Alpha several months prior.

As a test and demonstration, Braka detonated a mine in the uninhabited Sector 953, ravaging subspace and rendering warp travel impossible throughout the sector. In response, Starfleet went to defense condition one and recalled all starships to Federation space.

Following a rescue mission to Ukeck, the USS Athena discovered that the Venari Ral had deployed hundreds of Omega-47 mines along the entire Federation border. Each mine emitted an energy field that would trigger detonation if any vessel attempted to cross. The fields were synchronized on a subspace frequency, which precluded the USS Discovery using its spore drive to jump across. Starfleet estimated that the detonation of the entire minefield would destroy 80,000 cubic light years of space, with 240 inhabited planets affected and at least 160 billion dead.

Braka had thus effectively walled off the Federation from the rest of the galaxy, with only the Athena still outside. He controlled the minefield with a subspace signal, keeping the master control device on his person. With Starfleet confined, Braka attempted to organize a grand cartel of non-Federation worlds, while also making a show of putting the Federation on "trial" for their supposed misdeeds.

The Athena crew managed to devise a plan to disarm the mines without disrupting the signal, which could trigger detonation. The Doctor communicated that Omega-47 could be stabilized permanently by reducing the concentration of rubin particles; upon locating Braka and the signal source with the telepathic aid of Tarima Sadal, Caleb Mir hacked its subspace frequency, allowing SAM to transmit an algorithm to stabilize the molecules. Once the minefield was neutralized, a fleet of Federation starships apprehended Braka and his Venari Ral forces. (SA: "300th Night", "Rubincon")
