memory alpha

The Setlik system was an inhabited planetary system in the Alpha Quadrant.

This system was home to a native warp-capable civilization on Setlik I and Federation colonies on Setlik II and Setlik III.

Components

Stellar system

This was a binary star system consisting of a pair of A-type stars.

Planetary system

There were at least three planets in this system. Setlik I, Setlik II, and Setlik III were in the system's habitable zone.

History

In the mid-23rd century, Setlik was listed among several systems in the Kiley Local sector, named after the Kiley system, as being home to a warp-capable civilization; this civilization lived on Setlik I. Setlik II was home to a Federation colony, which had been in place for generations by 2259. Around that same time period, there were multiple reports of Orion pirate activity in the area around Setlik II. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds", "Those Old Scientists")

In the 24th century, this system was near the Federation-Cardassian border.

The Setlik system was a battleground during the Federation-Cardassian War in the mid-24th century. Believing that the system was a staging ground for a Federation assault on Cardassian space, Cardassian forces attacked the outpost on Setlik III and killed the majority of its inhabitants, in an event that would be remembered as the Setlik III massacre. (TNG: "The Wounded")

When the Venari Ral laid Omega-47 mines around the core of Federation space in 3196, this system was within the blast radius of one of the mines. (SA: "300th Night", "Rubincon")

Stellar cartography

On stardate 1292.4, Setlik's position was labeled in a chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)

The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. The Setlik system was in or near to Federation space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

In 3189, the location of Setlik was denoted on a holographic star chart of the galaxy at Federation Headquarters. (DIS: "Die Trying")

In 3195, this system's position was labeled on a Federation star chart which was displayed in Starfleet Academy's Stellar Cartography laboratory. Systems affiliated with the Federation, including this one, had blue labels. (SA: "Beta Test")

In 3196, during the Omega-47 crisis, the location of Setlik was depicted on star charts and readouts used across several locations on the USS Athena to locate, monitor, and respond to the Omega-47 mines laid by the Venari Ral. (SA: "300th Night", "Rubincon")

This star system was only mentioned in writing.
Based on Brad Boimler's comments that Setlik II had been settled for multiple generations as of 2259, the system was likely colonized around or before the early 23rd century.
The name of this system came from the source material used, the Star Trek: Star Charts and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library, to create the star charts seen in both Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard. Information on the system's stellar system came from Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 47) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385").
