Pickford was a Human who was enlisted as an operations division cadet in Starfleet Academy in the late 32nd century.

Upon arriving on the USS Athena in 3195, Pickford visited The Doctor after she swallowed her combadge out of nervousness. (SA: "Kids These Days")

During Commander Jett Reno's Temporal Mechanics class, Pickford sniped at SAM to reduce her enthusiasm, as she was "absorbing all the energy in the room." (SA: "Beta Test")

Later that year, Pickford participated in a training mission to the USS Miyazaki. She, along with Genesis Lythe and Darem Reymi, was assigned to the first shift of Red Team, who were to provide support from the Athena bridge to Blue Team on the Miyazaki. When a band of Furies took Blue Team hostage and ejected Lieutenant Commander Tomov's partially-cannibalized corpse into space, Pickford had a panic attack and was taken to the medbay.
