The Orellius system, also spelled as the Orelious system, was a planetary system in the Alpha Quadrant, relatively close to the Bajoran system,
Components
Stellar system=
This was a single star system. The primary Orellius Minor was a F-type star.
Planetary system
This system originally had at least nine planets. In the 14th century, Orelious IX was destroyed, reducing that number by one. The remains of Orelious IX became an asteroid field.
In the habitable zone of this system was the M-class planet Orellius, which orbited the star at a distance of 160 million kilometers.
History
In the 14th century, the Battle of Orelious IX was a significant engagement between the Promellians and the Menthars. This system destroyed the ninth planet of the system, reducing it to an asteroid field. That asteroid field was seeded with a Menthar booby trap, which continued to ensnare passing ships for centuries, until it was disabled in 2366 by the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Booby Trap")
In the 2360s, it was considered far away from any trade route.
In 2360, the SS Santa Maria, a Federation colony ship on its way to found a colony on Gemulon V, landed on the system's M-class planet in order to fix problems that had arisen in its life support system. Once on the planet, an apparently natural duonetic field disabled all technology, including the Santa Maria, and the colonists became stranded.
Under the direction of community leader Alixus, a prolific writer and self-proclaimed philosopher, attempts to overcome the field and thus escape or send a distress signal were soon abandoned, and instead the colonists dismantled the Santa Maria for material and started their planned colony on the planet. They embraced the absence of technology and created a primitive but seemingly well-functioning society.
In 2370, Commander Benjamin Sisko and Chief Miles O'Brien of the Starfleet runabout USS Rio Grande also became trapped on the planet. After uncovering Alixus's schemes, and bringing them to public knowledge, the Starfleet officers were able to escape the planet. As a result, the Federation officially re-established contact with the colony. The colonists elected to keep the colony in place, as it was, though it was brought under jurisdiction of Federation law. (DS9: "Paradise")
Stellar cartography
In 2259, the location of this system was labeled on a stellar cartography chart that was seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. This system's symbol had a blue color, indicating that it was affiliated with the United Federation of Planets. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds", "A Quality of Mercy")
On stardate 1292.4, the location of Orellius (Orelious) was labeled on a star chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)
In the early 25th century, this system's position was labeled on a star chart used by Captain William T. Riker during his attempt at finding the last known location of the SS Eleos XII. (PIC: "The Next Generation")
In 3195, this system's position was labeled on a Federation star chart which was displayed in Starfleet Academy's Stellar Cartography laboratory. (SA: "Beta Test")
In 3196, during the Omega-47 crisis, the location of Orellius (Orelious) was depicted on star charts and readouts used across several locations on the USS Athena to locate, monitor, and respond to the Omega-47 mines laid by the Venari Ral. This system was outside the affected region. These maps showed this system in or near the Venari Ral Zone. (SA: "300th Night", "Rubincon")
