The Maxia Zeta star system, also known as Maxia, was an uninhabited planetary system in the Alpha Quadrant. This system was located in the Maxia sector. The system was located at coordinates 16453/452.45.
Components
Stellar system
This was a binary star system consisting of the K-type Maxia Zeta and its M-type companion.
Planetary system
In this system, there were twelve planets. The planets Maxia Zeta III and Maxia Zeta IV, as well as moons of the latter planet, were located in the system's habitable zone. Being in this zone, this made these planets candidates for terraforming.
History
On stardate 40217.3, in 2355, the USS Stargazer was on a routine survey mission to scan the planets in this system. Traveling at warp through the system, the Stargazer was ambushed by a Ferengi starship that was launched from one of the moons of Maxia Zeta IV. (TNG: "The Battle" display graphic)
The conflict, known later as the Battle of Maxia, became legendary among the students at Starfleet Academy for a particular tactic used by Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the defense of his ship and crew. (TNG: "The Battle")
Stellar cartography
Location of Maxia labeled on a star chart (2259)
In 2259, the system's location was labeled in a stellar cartography chart seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. This system's symbol had a blue color, indicating that it was affiliated with the United Federation of Planets. (SNW: "A Quality of Mercy")
On stardate 1292.4, the location of the Maxia system was labeled in a star chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)
In 2370, Daimon Bok expressed his belief that the system was located within Ferengi space. (TNG: "Bloodlines")
In 2371, the location of Maxia Zeta was labeled in a star chart which Data and Picard studied in stellar cartography aboard the USS Enterprise-D. (Star Trek Generations, display graphic)
The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. Maxia was in or near to Ferengi space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")
In 2401, the location of Maxia was labeled on a star chart that was seen on the USS Stargazer's bridge viewscreen. The chart was used to show the location of the combined Starfleet-Borg armada and where it needed to go to face a galactic-level threat. (PIC: "Farewell")
In 3195, this system's position was labeled on a Federation star chart which was displayed in Starfleet Academy's Stellar Cartography laboratory. (SA: "Beta Test")
Later that year, this system's position was labeled on a Federation star chart which was displayed on the bridge of the USS Athena. Systems affiliated with the Ferengi Alliance, including this one, had red labels.(SA: "Come, Let's Away")
In 3196, during the Omega-47 crisis, the location of Maxia Zeta was depicted on star charts and readouts used across several locations on the USS Athena to locate, monitor, and respond to the Omega-47 mines laid by the Venari Ral. This system was outside the barrier. It was labeled in orange, indicating it was in the Ferengi Trade Zone. (SA: "300th Night", "Rubincon")

Background information
In the first draft script of "The Battle", "Maxia Zeta" was the name of a starbase situated about an hour's distance from the site where the Battle of Maxia took place. The associated system was instead called the "Maxia star system" and was said to include a black hole.
The map of the system, seen in "The Battle", depicted the orbital paths of only seven planets. This map was later modified and subsequently appeared in the episodes "Datalore", "Conspiracy", and "The Ensigns of Command".
Information on the system's stellar system came from the Star Trek: Star Charts ("United Federation of Planets I") and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"). Both sources stated that this system was independent in 2378.
