The psionic wall was a barrier erected by the Betazoids around their home star system in the 3090s, in response to depredations by the Venari Ral. The wall protected them from physical attack but also blocked communications, effectively isolating them from the rest of the galaxy.

Goja V was hidden behind the psionic wall, and was thus absent from Starfleet databases.

History

Over time, more systems chose to join the Betazoids in seclusion within the wall; by the late 32nd century, these amounted to some thirty planets and hundreds of species across ninety light years of space. In 3195, under pressure from the Betazed Youth Delegation, the Betazed government entered negotiations with the Federation to lower the wall and renew their membership. (SA: "Beta Test")

When the Venari Ral laid Omega-47 mines around the core of Federation space in 3196, this wall was within the enclosed region. (SA: "300th Night", "Rubincon")

Stellar cartography

In 3196, this wall appeared on Federation star charts as an unlabeled yellow dotted line circle. During the Omega-47 crisis, the location of the psionic wall was depicted on star charts and readouts used across several locations on the USS Athena to locate, monitor, and respond to the Omega-47 mines laid by the Venari Ral.(SA: "300th Night", "Rubincon")
