The Algol system, also known as Beta Persei or 26 Persei, was an inhabited planetary system located in the Kiley Local sector, Alpha Quadrant. Nearby inhabited star systems included the Talar, Galen, Kiley, Gamma Trianguli, Alpha Majoris, and Scalos systems.

This was the home system of the Algolians.

By 2259, the Federation had established first contact with this system and could visit it freely.

Components

Stellar system

This was a trinary system organized into a single star system and a binary system.

The primary Algol (the proper name for Beta Persei Aa1) was one of two stars in the binary system; the other was Beta Persei Aa2. Algol was a B-type dwarf star and its companion was a K-type subgiant.

In the single star system, there was Beta Persei Ab, which was a F-type dwarf star.

Planetary system

The system had five planets, including the inhabited warp-capable world of Algol I. This planet was located in the system's habitable zone.

Stellar cartography

The Algol system was visible from Earth in the constellation Perseus. It was approximately 94 light years from Sol.

In 2259, the location of this system was labeled on a stellar cartography chart that was seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. The system's symbol had a blue color, indicating that it was affiliated with the Federation. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds", "Children of the Comet")

On stardate 1292.4, the location of Algol was labeled in a chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)

The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. The Algol system was in or near to neutral space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

In 3189, the location of this system was denoted on a holographic star chart of the galaxy at Federation Headquarters. (DIS: "Scavengers")

In 3195, this system's position was labeled on a Federation star chart which was displayed in Starfleet Academy's Stellar Cartography laboratory. (SA: "Beta Test")

In 3196, during the Omega-47 crisis, the location of Algol (Beta Persei) was depicted on star charts and readouts used across several locations on the USS Athena to locate, monitor, and respond to the Omega-47 mines laid by the Venari Ral. This system was outside the affected region. (SA: "300th Night", "Rubincon")

This star system was only mentioned in writing.
It was written at StarTrek.com that the Algolian homeworld was located in this system. [1](X) [2](X)
Information on this system was derived from the episodes and films, the reference works Star Trek: Star Charts and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library, and real-world sources. The reference works were used extensively in the creation of star charts seen in Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Prodigy, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The real-world information added to the article was current as of 2026.
