The Monac system was a planetary system in the Alpha Quadrant.

Components

Stellar system

This was a single star system, consisting of the Monac sun. This was a K-type star.

Planetary system

In this system, there were at least four planets, including Monac IV. This planet was approximately 100 million kilometers from the Monac sun.

History

In the 24th century, this system was near or in Cardassian space.

In the 2370s, this system came under Dominion control, where they constructed the Monac shipyard.

In 2375, Klingon forces under General Martok destroyed the shipyards by triggering a solar plasma eruption from the surface of the Monac sun, by exploiting a magnetic instability near the equator of the star. The resulting explosion swept across the system and destroyed the Monac shipyard.

Stellar cartogrpahy

In 3196, during the Omega-47 crisis, the location of Monac was depicted on star charts and readouts used across several locations on the USS Athena to locate, monitor, and respond to the Omega-47 mines laid by the Venari Ral. This system was outside the affected region. (SA: "300th Night", "Rubincon")

Monac was named after DS9's special effects supervisor Gary Monak. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 598)
Information on the system's stellar system came from the Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 46) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("History of the United Federation of Planets"). In the latter source, it was stated that on a map of the Cardassian Union – prepared by an anonymous astrography clerk, from the Cardassian Central Archives, in 2364 – Monac was identified as a Cardassian system.
