Farius Prime, also known simply as Farius, was the inhabited prime planet in the Farius system, Alpha Quadrant. This was the homeworld of the humanoid Farians. (DS9: "Honor Among Thieves") It was located at a bearing of 216 mark 177 from Deep Space 9. (DS9: "The Maquis, Part I")

History

A 2370s trade route connected Farius Prime and Galador II, which was served by Galador freighters. Deep Space 9 was a way station along this trade route. (DS9: "The Maquis, Part I")

The planet was politically neutral and hosted a Klingon embassy. The Klingon ambassador in 2374 was an opponent of Gowron and his posting there was considered a form of punishment.

Paper currency was in use on the planet, races were held and prostitution existed. A location on Farius Prime was the Jinami Street. The planet maintained both a police force and a Municipal Sanitation department.

Different species lived on the planet besides the native Farians, including Humans, Bolians, Dopterians, Nasari, and several other humanoid species.

Farius Prime was also a major hub for activities of the Orion Syndicate, a criminal organization. In 2374, Miles O'Brien was sent undercover by Starfleet Intelligence to the planet to infiltrate the organization and build a case against some of its members. Among the Farius Prime-base members of the Syndicate were Liam Bilby, Graife, Flith, Krole, Yint and Raimus. (DS9: "Honor Among Thieves")

When the Venari Ral laid Omega-47 mines around the core of Federation space in 3196, this planet was within the blast radius of one of the mines. (SA: "300th Night", "Rubincon")

In an early version of the script of "Honor Among Thieves", the planet was called "Palomar Prime". (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion - A Series Guide and Script Library)
In StarTrek.com and in the scripts for "The Maquis, Part I" and "Honor Among Thieves", the pronunciation for Farius was "FAIR-ee-us". [1](X) [2] [3]
The position of this planet in the Alpha Quadrant was gleaned from the location of its system which was seen in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy episode "Beta Test".
