Volan was the M-type primary of the Volan system, Alpha Quadrant. In the star's planetary system, there were the planets Volan II and Volan III.

Between 2368 and 2373, this star's system was in the Demilitarized Zone.

Before the Attack on Bryma in 2370, when Commander Benjamin Sisko visited Volan III to speak with the Maquis, this star was low in the sky. (DS9: "The Maquis, Part II")

When the Venari Ral laid Omega-47 mines around the core of Federation space in 3196, this star's system was within the blast radius of one of the mines. (SA: "Rubincon")
