Cadet Leifer was a Starfleet cadet who entered Starfleet Academy in the 2250s.

When Vulcan was attacked by the Narada in 2258, Leifer was assigned to the USS Newton to assist in the rescue attempts. (Star Trek)

This cadet's fate is unknown, but since the starship they assigned to was destroyed, is is highly likely they perished along with it.
The name Leifer originated from the source's script. It was otherwise unintelligible on screen. [1]
