Cali-Katchna

Cali-Katchna

Cali-Katchna was the primary city on the planet Skygowan. It was located in the northern hemisphere, on the largest of a group of seven islands, at coordinates 53.98489 N latitude, 8783.29493 W longitude. The city's climate was tropical, with high temperatures, minimal seasonal changes, and frequent moderate storm systems.

With a population of 15,723 as of 2261, Cali-Katchna was more densely occupied than its six rural neighboring islands, and a center of trade. The inhabitants were mostly Cali-Katchna natives and Skygowan natives, along with a small number of Orions and other non-Federation species. The cityscape was dominated by massive hovering temples dedicated to the Vezda.

In 2261, after realizing that a phrase uttered by a Vezda that had possessed Dana Gamble was phonetically almost identical to the name of this city, Doctor Roger Korby traveled there to investigate. He arranged a meeting with the local High Cleric, Zeperez, who was revealed to be the same Vezda in Gamble's reconstituted body, having escaped from the USS Enterprise's transport buffer. Zeperez used Korby to lure the Enterprise to Skygowan, as he needed Doctor Joseph M'Benga to open the interdimensional portal to Vadia IX. He proceeded to take over the city, with his followers gouging out their eyes in preparation for mass Vezda possession.

Captains Christopher Pike and Marie Batel followed Zeperez and M'Benga to Vadia IX, where Batel took advantage of her hybridized anti-Vezda genetic memory to become the Beholder and reseal all the Vezda within their prison. Once the Vezda were gone, the population of Skygowan began to recover, as though "waking up from a terrible dream." (SNW: "New Life and New Civilizations")
