memory alpha

The Alcor system, also known as the 80 Ursae Majoris system, was an inhabited planetary system in the Alpha Quadrant.

Components

Stellar system

This was a binary system consisting of the A-type primary Alcor (the official name of Alcor A) and the red dwarf Alcor B.

Planetary system

In the system's habitable zone, there was the inhabited planet Alcor IV.

History

The Alcor system was known to Starfleet at least by the 23rd century, although it wasn't yet colonized until the far future.

When the Venari Ral laid Omega-47 mines around the core of Federation space in 3196, this system was within the blast radius of one of the mines. (SA: "300th Night")

The Alcor system was a long distance from the location at which the USS Discovery was abandoned for nearly a millennium. The distance was such that crossing it in a Class C shuttlecraft was theoretically possible but a stretch. (ST: "Calypso")

Stellar cartography

This system was visible from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. It could be found in the asterism Big Dipper and was approximately 82 light years from Sol.

On stardate 1292.4, the location of Alcor was labeled in a chart used during a Section 31 Alpha Team briefing. (Star Trek: Section 31)

Information on this system was derived from the episodes, the reference works Star Trek: Star Charts and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library, and real-world sources. The reference works were used extensively in the creation of star charts seen in Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Star Trek: Prodigy, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The real-world information added to the article was current as of 2026.
