SNW and TOS Starfleet ranks
Greetings, it has been a while since we chatted on this subject and based on our previous talks, I have been working on this to support correcting the sleeve stripe system for the Early-mid 23rd century (SNW) Starfleet ranks to be more in line with the Late-mid 23rd century (TOS) ranks.
· Commander Rank (currently shown as Lieutenant Commander)
In the episode "What Is Starfleet?" (time stamp 11:50 - 12:00) Joseph M'Benga is listed as being the rank of Commander and he wears 2 Thick Stripes as do people with the same rank in TOS.
· Lieutenant Commander Rank (currently shown as Lieutenant)
In the episode "The Broken Circle" (time stamp 12:45 - 13:45) Spock calls Pelia Commander multiple times. As in the present-day military, it is acceptable to address a Lieutenant Commander as Commander. I doubt that Spock would get her rank wrong (Lieutenant vs Lieutenant Commander / Commander) that many times in one conversation. Pelia wears 1 Thin Stripe above 1 Thick Stripe as do people with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in TOS.
In the episode "The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail" (time stamp 9:50 - 11:00) both Alvarez and Spock call Kirk Commander. As above with Pelia, it is acceptable to address a Lieutenant Commander as Commander. It has been listed here that Kirk is now a Lieutenant Commander. In this episode we now see Kirk wearing 1 Thin Stripe above 1 Thick Stripe for the first time. In the past when he appeared he was only wearing 1 Thick Stripe for the rank of Lieutenant. The added 1 Thin Stripe above the previously seen 1 Thick Stripe would be due to his promotion from Lieutenant to Lieutenant Commander.
· Lieutenant Rank (currently shown as Lieutenant Junior Grade)
In the episodes "Lost in Translation" and "Subspace Rhapsody" when we see James Kirk, he is only wearing 1 Thick Stripe for his former rank of Lieutenant. His rank before being promoted to Lieutenant Commander due to his assignment as the XO on the U.S.S. Farragut.
Based on the above and what has been shown in the Lieutenant Commander Rank section, the rank of Lieutenant should be only 1 Thick Stripe as seen in TOS with people of the same rank.
Let me know what you think. BPense 16:29, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
Add to link clean up
Can you add Memory Alpha:List of unwritten sports and recreation articles to link clean up? Thanks. I've been trying to shrink the "cultural" page so it will clean up properly. -LauraCC (talk) 20:28, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
Or does it automatically get added? (You might have said as much before, and I just forgot.) -LauraCC (talk) 20:38, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure it automatically checks all pages with titles beginning like that ("Memory Alpha:List of unwritte"...). Try it, and let me know if it works (since I see one blue link on the page, you can check if it removes that). 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (contribs) 20:40, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
It just worked. Thanks. :) If you could maybe go over the "cultural" page and see how we could split it further...I found a few clothing items but not enough for a fashion page again. -LauraCC (talk) 20:41, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
PDF template bug
When you have a minute, could you take a look at the {{PDF}} template? There appears to be a bug wherein the name of a PDF file can't contain a comma or the template code can't seem to find the file. It seems to be fine in galleries, just no when using {{PDF}}.
Also, I've had a report (several, actually) that PDFs aren't displaying properly inline on an article page when Safari is used. Apparently neither the thumbnail nor the Adobe icon are displayed when viewing a page with Safari as the browser; only a black rectangle appears. The PDF opens normally when the dark rectangle is clicked. I haven't been able to verify this because I don't have any Apple devices; I'm hoping that you do! :) -- Renegade54 (talk) 17:40, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
- I can't seem to reproduce either issue. Perhaps you could link to a page where these problems are occurring, and/or provide a screenshot? 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (contribs) 23:15, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

Transgender logo
Hi, Jörg Hillebrand pointed out in one of his X posts that the transgender logo appeared in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy episode "Kids These Days". [1] What would be the best way of introducing this subject to Memory Alpha?Memphis77 (talk) 12:20, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
Sidebar starship class template
Hey, could you take a look at {{sidebar starship class}}? There seems to be a bug that's messing up (at a minimum) the Ketha class article formatting (at the top). Thanks! -- Renegade54 (talk) 18:33, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
Fixed! 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (contribs) 02:12, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
- It's now affecting CCG: Adversaries Anthology. LauraCC (talk) 13:13, 20 May 2026 (UTC)
- Not "now"; it's not a new bug, it's been like this for years. That said, I've fixed that infobox template as well. Only 21 left to go... 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (contribs) 13:48, 20 May 2026 (UTC)

Red outline around some links
Do you know why I'm seeing a red outline around some links? Thought it was related to the link rot thing, but at least one (hedonism) isn't in that hidden category. LauraCC (talk) 18:57, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- Sounds like you've enabled the "Highlight duplicate links in articles" gadget. 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (contribs) 23:11, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
