Starfleet scouts
A scout was any person who set out in advance of others to seek information. They might travel alone, or as part of a scouting party.
In 2374, Chakotay jokingly deduced that Seven of Nine had never assimilated any Indian scouts, from her missing a set of footprints that gave a clue to the direction of crewmates they were trying to locate. (VOY: "Demon")
Cyrano Jones operated as an independent scout near the Klingon border during the 2260s. (TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles")
JR, Roo, Sprocket, and Finn were Starfleet Scouts during their childhood. (Star Trek: Scouts)
