Planet Ray was an uninhabited desert planet. It was enclosed by a temporal anomaly that caused it to appear "frozen in time." Outside this anomaly was a ring of asteroids.

In 3067, the USS Miyazaki explored Planet Ray. During the mission, Captain Chi and Number One found themselves temporarily stranded on the surface and cut off from their ship. After they managed to return to the Miyazaki, they employed the tractor beam to catch a passing asteroid, with which they towed their ship out of the planet's gravity well and free of the anomaly.

After the Burn, a fictionalized account of this mission was the plot of the first issue of the comic book Tales From the Frontier. (SA: "Come, Let's Away")
