New Orleans, also known as La Nouvelle Orleans in the French language, was a major scientific and commercial hub in the Gulf Coast region of the United States. The city was famous for its French Quarter that contained, among other attractions, Jackson Square and Audubon Park. The 24th century New Orleans-class starship was named after this city. The script for the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Move Along Home" describes the Chula game section that Benjamin Sisko started in had archways that "reveals the depth and breadth of the continuing labyrinth... like looking across a courtyard in a New Orleans hotel."
