Fetching was the retrieving of thrown or distant objects, usually by a dog.
In 2153, Jonathan Archer claimed he hadn't taught Porthos any tricks, and that "mostly what he [did was] eat, sleep, and not fetch." (ENT: "Similitude")
In an earlier deleted scene, Sim had attempted to teach the dog to fetch, but Archer told the mimetic simbiot that "fetching [was not Porthos'] style".
During an instance in which JR, Roo, and Sprocket were attempting to deflect a meatball asteroid, JR's pet Alfa 177 canine, Zips, tried to get his owner to play fetch with him. JR was reluctant at first, but ended up throwing a ball to Zips. However, the ball accidentally hit the zero-gravity switch, causing everyone in the room to float in the air.
