The Time Machine was a book by H.G. Wells from the late 19th century about time travel aboard a time machine.

When Kathryn Janeway tried to explain her and the crew of USS Voyager's true nature to the holographic Michael Sullivan in 2376, she inquired if he had read The Time Machine. He took her question to mean that they had travelled back in time to visit the village, to which she replied, "In a manner of speaking." (VOY: "Spirit Folk")

Daniels's claim in ENT: "Shockwave, Part II" that Jonathan Archer is "thinking of time travel like we're in some H.G. Wells novel" is apparently a reference to this book.
Trek alumnus Whit Bissell played Walter Kemp in the 1960 adaptation and Ralph Branly in the 1978 adaptation. Wah Chang designed the iconic titular object and the Morlocks for the former.
A Klingon translation of The Time Machine was published in 2025.
