Limitations of description

I thought a "hand" phaser referred to either the type-1 or type-2, since it's used in one hand, whereas the type-3 phaser is commonly called a phaser rifle. Was it canonically established that hand phaser is type-1 and type-2 is called something different? 74.69.121.132 12:41, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

No, VOY: "Distant Origin" and "Repression" specifically refer to the type 2 as a hand phaser. Other references that are also missing that could use elaboration, including the current lump of references with no context to TOS: "Arena", "The Enemy Within" and TNG: "The Mind's Eye", include TNG: "Hide And Q" and TOS: "The Corbomite Maneuver". –Gvsualan (talk) 13:24, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
