Category[]

The category is as good as any for now. We could create a new category for companies and/or websites which can legally stream Star Trek, which I believe is Netflix, StarTrek.com, and CBS.com. Or we could simply expand the definition of the Broadcasters category. Either way, should probably be discussed elsewhere, but I wanted to say it's OK for now. :) --31dot 20:43, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Neutral wording[]

In the section about Bob Bakish's remarks on the removal of Discovery from Netflix, I had changed Sennim's "tried to justify" to "explained", as I felt "justified" was needlessly editorializing. Sennim subsequently changed it back to "justified". In keeping with the old Wikipedia principle of BRD, I'm bringing the discussion here rather than reverting again, to avoid a (rather pointless) edit war.

I think that "justified" suggests an adversarial context which may not have been present in Bakish's remarks. Bakish was speaking to investors, not fans, and he brought up Discovery in the context of a general question about third-party licensing of ViacomCBS properties. To my ear, "justified" suggests that he was speaking in the context of the international fan outcry, which may or may not have been on his mind at all.

Additionally, "explained" is the word our source (TrekMovie) uses for what Bakish was doing. I think that changing "explained" to "justified" puts a negative spin on the remark. We shouldn't be taking sides in controversies; insofar as Memory Alpha is a record of Star Trek history, we should record it as neutrally and objectively as we can.

But perhaps I'm missing something. Sennim, is there a reason you changed "explained" back to "justified"? Does anyone else have an opinion on this wording? —Josiah Rowe (talk) 04:31, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

I agree... we should strive for neutrality. If it was a direct quote, then fine, but it's not. -- Renegade54 (talk) 15:18, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Split[]

Split the real world section off, as it's fairly long compared to the one-off logo sighting in universe. -LauraCC (talk) 19:25, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
