An objection was a formal protest by an attorney against evidence, testimony, or a question posed by the opposing attorney.

In 2367, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, under Ventaxian law, demanded an arbitration regarding the claim of the being stylizing herself as "Ardra" to the planet of Ventax II, as well as anything in orbit of it. After some argument, Ardra agreed, and Picard noted they would have to choose an arbiter. Ardra then chose Lieutenant commander Data, asking if there were any objections. Picard protested that Data was a member of his crew, but she argued that he was a member of her crew and noted his lack of deceit or bias as an android. Later, as the arbitration proceeded, both Picard and Ardra raised several objections to testimony, some of which Data sustained, and some which were overruled. (TNG: "Devil's Due")
