On Memory Alpha, bots are used from time to time to do minor and/or repetitive tasks via automation. To the outside, a bot looks like a normal user, but they have a special bot flag which renders their edits invisible when looking at the recent changes.
Bot policy
- Every bot needs a user page, which must explain the bot's tasks and link to the bot's controller.
- New bots should be put forward at Memory Alpha:Bot approval requests before being used. Unauthorized bots may not be used.
- All bots must be listed on this page.
- Bots should not be used just because the controller doesn't want to do the edits.
- At first, the bot should only be used in a limited way, so the controller and other users get used to its behavior.
- All bot activity may be questioned by other users.
- Bureaucrats may remove bots that have been inactive for five years or more.
Requesting bot runs
Requests for bot runs should be made on the bot requests page.
