Groundbreaking of the town hall on Terra Nova

Groundbreaking of the town hall on Terra Nova

Groundbreaking was a tradition in which a shovel was used to make the first step in the construction of a building.

In 2078, Captain Mitchell and several colonists of the SS Conestoga had a groundbreaking ceremony for their town hall on Terra Nova. A photography of this ceremony was included in the historical archives. (ENT: "Terra Nova")

In 2374, Chakotay suggested a groundbreaking ceremony be held for USS Voyager's new astrometrics lab. Harry Kim concurred, and Captain Kathryn Janeway decided to replicate a bottle of 2370 vintage Saint-Émilion. (VOY: "Year of Hell, Part II")
