Bruce Franklin Thatcher (22 March 195413 November 2012; age 58) was a software developer and author from Orem, Utah, near Brigham Young University.

He is best known for his two Star Trek short stories, including the second prize winning "Of Cabbages and Kings" in the first Strange New Worlds competition, and published in the 1998 anthology Strange New Worlds. A second story, "I Am Become Death", was published in the anthology Strange New Worlds II in 1999.

Thatcher wrote a number of other stories, many dealing with ethics and morality, including "By Other Windings", which placed him first in one of the editions of the "Writers of the Future" contest.
