Over at the Fanfic wiki, we've got about 2,500 rank insignia images that need to be converted from .PNG to .png. Obviously, to do so manually would be a herculean task (the 2373 red captain alone is used in about 150 different articles), so I was wondering if any of the members here who program bots would be willing to help us out.
All of the images are by one author, so they use one licensing template, so it should be easy enough for the bot to focus on them specifically (correct me if I'm wrong on any of this). Basically, what's needed is to go through the pages that link to the images and change the links to .png, while also moving the images themselves from .PNG to .png and deleting the redirects. Is that possible?
Also, I am putting in a similar request at several other wikis, so if you're willing to do it, please let me know but don't start working on it until I confirm it with you, as I'd rather not have anyone work on a bot and then be told that their efforts aren't needed. --Kevin W.•Talk to me 19:28, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Nevermind. I think I've got this solved. --Kevin W.•Talk to me 21:18, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- In everyday operations, the bot would need administrator status to move files, with that said, I'm not sure if it still can be done with std bot commands. Otherwise changing links would be easy. --Alan 21:32, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
